Two Dallas NJTL Kids Among National Arthur Ashe Essay Winners

Two Dallas NJTL participants were among the winners when the USTA announced the 10 winners of the 11th annual USTA/NJTL Arthur Ashe Essay Contest. The 10 winners, ranging in ages from 10 to 18, will receive a travel package from August 28-August 30 that includes: round-trip coach airfare to New York City for themselves and a parent/legal guardian; two nights lodging at the Grand Hyatt 42nd Street; an honorary plaque; an Awards Luncheon hosted by Mayor Dinkins; a Duck Tour of New York City; tickets to Broadway’s “Disney’s the Little Mermaid,” and President’s Box tickets to 2009 Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day presented by Hess on August 29 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is the official kick-off for the 2009 US Open that runs August 31 - September 13.

6 Dallas Teams Crowned Texas Section Adult League Champions

Six Dallas league teams won their divisions at the USTA Texas Section adult league sectionals held the first and second weekends in August. Congratulations to David Picker's Lonestar Women's team, Kelli Butcher's 2.5 Womens team, Amy Zemaitis' 3.0 Womens team from High Point, Kelle Plummer's 3.5 Womens team from Canyon Creek, Bob Bender's 3.0 Mens team from Collin County and Bob Somabut's 4.0 Mens team from High Point.

2009 Adult League Champions

Congratulations to the 2009 Adult League champions! These teams will represent Dallas in the Texas Adult League Sectionals July 31-August 2 (2.5-3.5 & Lonestar) and August 7-9 (4.0-Open). The women's champions are: 2.5 Warren (Kelli Butcher, captain), 3.0 High Point (Amy Zemaitis, captain), 3.5 Greenhill (Susan Robbins, captain), 4.0 Greenhill (Shelly Odell, captain), 4.5 Village (Laura Worsham, captain) and Lonestar Pickler 1 (David Pickler, captain). The men's champions are: 3.0 Collin County (Bob Bender, captain), 3.5 Garland (John Sisk, captain), 4.0 Lifetime Fitness (Eddie Hill, captain), 4.5 Oak Creek (Rusty Branch, captain), 5.0 T Bar M (Tom Bartzen, captain) and Open Village (Brannon Perkison, captain.)
